Ready to work offers a unique approach for high school students who struggle to keep on top of their homework, meet deadlines, and carry out long term projects. The program combines psychotherapy and coaching to address underlying issues, while offering hands on support.
Dr. Adam Price is a leading expert in the areas of teen motivation and Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder. In over twenty years of clinical practice he has learned that most underperforming teens suffer from anxiety about their intelligence and academic abilities. These teens rely heavily on avoidance as their main coping strategy. As a result, they never develop the ability to work in the face of self-doubt, which is critical to success in any learning endeavor. Their avoidance and lack of school success leads to family conflict. Parents become “the enemy.” Dr. Price works with teens to understand their fears and develop better coping strategies. The goal is to help teens take ownership over their academic performance.
How it works: The Program begins with a thorough evaluation that includes a family consultation, patient interview, review of reports, and contact with any other treating professionals. Each student meets weekly with a therapist to work on issues related to school performance. Family sessions are scheduled as needed to help reduce parent-teen conflict and coach parents to give teens more autonomy & accountability. Teens also attend weekly study sessions that are supervised by a homework coach. During these sessions students are able to work in a distraction free environment, and to gain support and supervision from the mentor.
